Stompdrift Trail

De Rust/Oudtshoorn

Activity Description

A slightly faster 2-hour guided outride, mostly in the Stompdrift Dam basin where some of our young horses roam.
It is designed for more experienced riders, so Accomplished and Expert level riders are welcome to book for this one as you must be able to trot and canter on a well schooled horse.

Arrangements

Duration2 hours
WhenAll year round.
WhereStompdrift Dam Road, De Rust, Oudtshoorn district, in the Klein Karoo.
WeatherThis service is weather depending. Humans are waterproof, just like horses. We will continue with your ride in wet weather conditions, although we rarely have to reschedule due to rain. The Klein Karoo is known for its very dry climate, however, we do not operate in extreme wet weather conditions and rides will be rescheduled if we decide that its impossible to attempt the ride. In the case of high temperatures, we take along water in the saddle bags and if you keep moving, it is bearable mostly because we have a low humidity.
What to WearComfortable clothing: Long pants, ski pants or riding breeches and closed shoes. Sneakers are not ideal, but acceptable. Avoid clothing which can be damaged by shrubs and branches (e.g. down jackets, microfibre). We provide riding hats. If there are rain predicted, bring a light rain jacket. We can tidy it away in a saddle bag if you are unsure of the weather on the ride.
Things to BringRemember to bring your sunscreen and sunglasses. In summer, we recommend long sleeved, light shirts with a collar for protection against the sun. Feel free to bring your own water bottle to take along on the ride, otherwise we provide bottled tap water or you can buy drinks at our Farm Shop. Bring a change of clothing if we expect wet weather. Please ensure that you bring an EpiPen if you have a known bee allergy
Guests or SpectatorsNon riders are welcome to spend time on the farm while friends or family are out on a ride. Take a walk or relax under the vine veranda. The farm shop has a small selection of refreshments available. Alternatively you can take the short drive to De Rust to browse shops or visit one of the numerous café’s. Meiringspoort Waterfall is also a short drive away.

Notes

Maximum number of riders per group: 12
Please arrive 15 to 30 minutes before your starting time so that you have enough time to fit a riding cap, sign the waiver/indemnity (if you haven’t checked in on line beforehand) and have a safety briefing before meeting your guide and horse. Please be on time to avoid disappointment, as the ride has to end at the arranged time.

Please check in online before your ride so that we have important details to be able to choose the best horse for each rider.
This is not an exclusive ride so others of the same skill level may join.

Customer Reviews

My daughter did an outride with KKHA. I while back so I can't remember the guide's name. I think it was Lenny, a British gent. She absolutely loved the ride as well as the sights. It is a bonus for parents like us to be able to show children the beautiful area we live in. Celia was fantastic, and even showed us around the buildings a bit. We will be back. Hopefully for a riding camp. - Dirk
